Gmail, Bcc and seperate groups
Discussion
Have become sec for my club and have a membership/associatesof around 70
I have to send out monthly meeting details to all of them so a multi post 50ish the Bcc header could be Meetrings
Quarterly newsletters to committee members 15 or so Header Committee
As and when updates and news to all full 70 Header Updates
I have them all as single contacts but finding that following the wiki instructions to set up the intitial group of 70. i eneded up with no header and no group!
Is there a step by step idiots guide out there... I had no problems in doing it on my BT account but would like a dedicated email just for the club matters

This is a task I need to do from time-to-time. If you want your newsletter to have a professional look then it is worth investing the time in Mailchimp. Having said that I have found using Gmail the easiest and quickest for a simple mail-out. I copy the cc: and bcc: lists in from a Word document, I guess you are doing the same with the newsletter text. How you get the e-mail addresses into Word depends on how you maintain them. Note Gmail needs a space between each e-mail address, Google will be able to tell you how to easily swap out the carriage returns or whatever you have, depending on the world processing software you use. Also Gmail has a limit of sending out 100 e-mails per day. You are clearly under this at the moment.

You need to set up labels in Contacts but this is one of the areas where gmail is really bad. Also you may find that with emailing 70 people random recipients will not receive their emails (nothing in spam/junk folders). I already knew about this before it happened with me with a mailshot I sent out. I ended up using the free version of Mailchimp and hoping no one clicks on Unsubscribe.
It's actually pretty easy.
In the 'free' version of GMail it's managed from within your Contact list.
Easiest done on a laptop or desktop machine so you've a fully fledged web browser. So loosely, as below;

Easiest done on a laptop or desktop machine so you've a fully fledged web browser. So loosely, as below;
- Go to https://contacts.google.com/
- Add everyone to your Contacts list (ensure each field here contains the correct information for that specific field, or you'll create mischief and encounter problems down the road which will lead to much head scratching)
- Select the relevant contacts for your first group by placing a tick in the checkbox next to their name in your contacts list
- Click on the Label icon above the contacts list (to the right)
- Click Create Label
- Enter a Name for the label
- Click Save
Once done;
- Open GMail
- Begin typing the first few letters of your Label name in the To/BCC field and then select the Label. That email will then be circulated to all contacts you have under that label. You'll see a floating pop-up telling you how many people are under each Label each time to remind you you're emailing a group of people.
Please not mailchimp, everyone has said how good it is but it was driving me crazy!!
I set up a trial scheme on my BTmail account and found that so easy to use, BUT the amount of stuff coming back frm members really interfered with the private stuff, so i have set up a stand alone gmail account,.
I have all the members on the single contact list, it is getting the three 'sub lists 'organise.
But there is a lot of good info on here and thanks for the time taken to assist.
It really is appreaciated to a electronic idiot, who really has problems dealing with stuff he csnnot see... Now give me a miller and a lathe and i am as happy as larry!! I really envy you lot who can look at a program and just get on with it..i can just about manage on/off
