We've got a couple of aging Bose Sounddocks that we use in the house that are still quite good but it's time for an upgrade.

Done a bit of research on replacements and the Apple HomePods get some good reviews, esp sound quality at that price point. But, as with most things Apple, the technology is sometimes designed to limit non Apple stuff interfacing.

So, we both have Apple phones/tablets, so using IOS to set the things up isn't a problem. But we use Spotify, not Apple Music, and listen to Radio via BBC Sounds. I believe we should be OK with the 2nd gen HomePods, but just wondering if anyone can share actual experience.

Thx

If you like Bose why not buy a few Home Speaker 300's? They were discontinued in 2022 but there are usually loads for sale on Ebay and Facebook Marketplace for about £100-130 each.

They absolutely will blow the Apple HomePod Mini's out the water for sound quality, and easily sound as good (if not better) than the big £300 HomePod.

I have them all round my house and I absolutely love them. They are AirPlay 2 compatible, and I use them for playing music throughout the house in all rooms, as I usually stream from my phone or iPad. They sound fantastic, the microphone for Alexa/voice control is known to be one of the best ever made (I can shout a command from the next room, even with music playing, and it will always understand me).

I like them so much that I may even buy a few more to stockpile them in case any fail in the future hehe

No native BBC Sounds so you have to start it playing on your phone and airplay it. Will only do the TuneIn radio stations by voice.

Alexa and Google units (including Sonos etc if you can add those) just let you say “play radio 6 music” and off they go.

I've got a stereo pair of the original 'big ones' and can't fault them.

I am fully into the Apple ecosystem though and use Apple music.
Set up and use is as simplistic as you'd expect, the sound and volume are spot on.

I suppose it depends on what and how you plan to stream through them.
