Google Home Automations (Script Editor Public Preview)
Discussion
Anyone else started using the new script editor for their Google Home automations?
I was going to start using Home Assistant but discovered Google are previewing their version at the moment. As I already use Google Home for basic automations it made sense to give it a ago.
So far the YAML code seems relatively easy to grasp. I've bought some of Sonoff kit (sensors switches etc) and have been playing around.
The first thing I did was make a motion monitoring system for my mother's house. She elderly and lives on her own and I'm concerned she may have a fall.
It's a simple montion detector that sends me a notification if/when she:
1. hasn't got up in the morning (no motion for 10 hours)
2. hasn't been active during the day (no motion for 1 hour during the day)
3. Has been seen in the morning (first motion detected in the morning)
So far it's working well. Only one alert in two weeks telling me she hadn't got up in the morning, then one saying she was up. She had just slept in.

Interesting - is it possible to integrate anything with it, or at least can a community do this, or does the manufacturer need to do it?
I like home assistant because it supports so many things, however I have nothing against cloud and find it a bit backwards to be running cloud integrations on a server in my home.

It would need to be something that works with Google home. I like home assistant because it supports so many things, however I have nothing against cloud and find it a bit backwards to be running cloud integrations on a server in my home.
As an example I have a bunch of Sonoff smart light modules, amd motion sensors and it all works, then I added a Sonoff push button but didn't check that it works with Google (I just assumed it did). It doesn't show up in Google home, and looking on the box it doesn't say "Works with Google home". I had to link it to a light using the Sonoff app.
I agree on having to run my own server. That's why i stayed with Google Home when they made the script editor available.
I've now added a few more custom scripts and they are working well.
