Hi all,

Just wondered if anybody out there uses their phones for underwater videos/pictures, I have a Pixel 9 which is IP68.

Few years ago I bought a cheap gopro knock off to use while diving in Greece, me and the wife will be in Bali in March and will do some snorkeling/diving out there and just wondered if the phone + waterproof case will be fine for the job as the gopro knockoff, if I'm honest was poor.

Won't the waterproof case obscure the picture?

Years ago, I was on holiday and the girl I was with wanted some underwater shots of fishes. She announced she was going to use her waterproof iPhone.

I told her it was a very bad idea - even if it was waterproof, salt water was a very different thing.
She ignored me. 2 hours later, her phone got very hot and died.

I’ve never taken the risk, wouldn’t want to be stuck in a resort without a functioning phone. Easy to get a Go Pro, or knockoff that’ll produce similar results for 50 quid.

I have seen people doing it, but even though my phone is completely insured I don't take the risk as its a pain in the ass when it breaks.

I have, on many occasions with no issues whatsoever - even caught my daughter learning to swim on video thanks to this ability too

The charging port can take a little while to dry out but otherwise no problem with an iPhone (a few meters) underwater

I was going to try it just without a case, but my previous phone (Pixel 6) had a few issues with speakers getting wet and stopping working so I think the underwater case is probably the better option.

From what I can see they put a nice clear bit around the camera.

Don't do underwater much but used something similar to this the one time we visited the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Would use again. https://www.amazon.co.uk/JOTO-Waterproof-Uderwater...

I use the sealife sports diver case and it is spot on for this - phone camera technology is brilliant and the quality of the pics underwater is top tier.

It has built in pressure sensors (you create a vacuum before it allows it to work underwater) so you have some warning if its all about to get wet

You can get "professional" cases from ebay £30 or just simple plastic bags, £10

Used my last few samsung galaxies to take underwater videos and photos of my daughter jumping into the pool with zero issues.
