Cheap domain name hosting that includes email forwarding
Discussion
Who are folks using? Been with 123reg for years no issues but they migrated me off their legacy system which allowed creation of multiple email address under your domain name (.co.uk) and email forwarding option i.e. user@domainname.co.uk forwards to general gmail/outlook email. Now to get the same functions I need their Professional Email Starter pack which is more per year than the domain rental. Looking around for options to move to but seems quite difficult to find specifics on A) if multiple email addresses are supported (some only mention 1) - I have two currently but always handy to have the option to quickly spin up another on the fly, B) if email forwarding supported as standard.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Following recommendations on here, I moved to MythicBeasts in December (because my Google stuff had been sold off to Squarespace).
It depends on your domain - .com seems to cost more than .co.uk - but I moved mine to them, and it seems you can have unlimited mailboxes and unlimited email addresses per mailbox for each domain. For each address, you can specify an action - which I believe includes forwarding.
Cost is minimal - and when I had a few problems getting the email working, they responded very quickly.
I'm impressed with them.

Yeah I came across them in my searches. Do you use them and know if you can setup multiple email addresses under a domain (without buying an additional service)? Under their feature list it says "Create a professional email address" which implies only one. I've messaged them to confirm but always good to hear from an actual customer.https://www.ionos.co.uk/domains/co-uk-domain

I'm with 123reg as well. I use their email starter for some domains, but for others, I just set email forwarding to Google email or whatever, ie there no cost involved for that.Thanks.
Are you saying they are now starting to charge for simple email forwarding?

Yes you can set up multiple email accounts for the same domain - for example we have hello@, support@, maureen@ and so on. I think you can have tens and tens of email addresses under one domain. You can also place a forward on any email address to somewhere else you choose.
You can manage this yourself in the IONOS control panel. We use IONOS own email software (similar to Hotmail, G Mail) on desktops in the office and go about the usual set-up instructions on our iPhones.

Yeah I got an email in April 2023 "Support Ending for Your Generation 1 Mailboxes" then in Jan 2024 my domain was migrated. You got one year free on the new platform but then Jan it asked me to renew at £23.99 per year for Professional Email Starter - I just did one month to make sure I didn't lose anything whilst I look around. That said when I read the migration email it says:Are you saying they are now starting to charge for simple email forwarding?
Is there a cost associated with this migration?
No, the migration is free of charge. Your forwarders will also remain free of charge once the migration is complete.
So I am not sure what they are charging for (possibly as I have more than 1 email address) or even if I really need to pay it. The detail on their website is rather lacking.

Yes, mine was migrated from a Gen 1 to Gen 2 some time ago, but there was no cost involved, i.e. it just carried on forwarding for my domains that use that as before. Is there a cost associated with this migration?

I also had Web Hosting with them, which was simple enough. Now that's a nightmare as well. And you need an SSL now of course, and they dont provide one, so you have to pay extra (well, I think you do, because I can't make head nor tail of their website).

So, I'm also going to migrate to another provider. All my stuff with them starts to expire towards the end of the year, so I will alse be looking at an alternative provider.

te. Their website is now all over the place, nothing (as you say) is clear at all. They started using something called cPanel for admin and it's a total mess. And their help pages often don't match either, because they have not updated them.

king up their domain hosting, I lost interest and let it lapse. That caused my email server's MX records to get reset, which killed my email. I finally worked out what the issue was and put the records back and thankfully got it all working again. I raised a support ticket and they just ignored it for weeks. Finally, when they did bother to reply, they said they had no idea why the MX records had been removed. I then guessed the reason, and all they said was "Ah yes, that will be it, um, ah". So I actually worked out what had happened, when they couldn't !

I had no cost during / post migraton. Its only now (Dec) I got some notification email saying something needs renewing (but not what it is) so I went intro control panel and saw it the Professional Email Starter which I presume was added as part of the migration. But if so very sneaky and very unclear. Reddit is littered with such complaints so no reason to stay with 123.But, over the last year or so, they have turned to s

So far I am liking the look of Mythic Beasts that was recommended above. Just want to mitigate the chance of breaking my email / forwarding.

Funny you should say that then, because I've just logged on and checked, and 4 of my domains (I have 5) are showing "Professional Email Starter" for each domain, but I only pay for 2 of them. i.e. the other 2 I just forward, and yet it says "Professional Email Starter" for that domain as well. The 1 other domain says nothing. So far I am liking the look of Mythic Beasts that was recommended above. Just want to mitigate the chance of breaking my email / forwarding.
I'm thinking of Zen, because that's my ISP, and they are excellent.

I only forward also i.e. I do not use their own email service just @mydomain.co.uk -> gmail account. So am still confused but not worth checking any further as decided to move away. I did not know Zen even did that - I also have them for BB (FTTC). Taking a look.....I'm thinking of Zen, because that's my ISP, and they are excellent.
I moved two accounts from Ionos to Mythic Beasts based on recommendations from here, and I've had no trouble. Ionos were fine too, but only cheap if I remembered to cancel the account and take out a new special offer every year, otherwise it'd jump up to a much higher price. MB is dearer than the Ionos special offer, but it's consistent.
Each Ionos cheap account would only allow a single domain, where the MB ones allow any number (or more than one, anyway). Their domain hosting is cheaper than Ionos was for me, too. It would allow multiple email addresses, though I don't know how many as in both cases I only needed one, with the others being redirects to personal email addresses hosted elsewhere.

Just to check -
I have
domain1.com
domain2.co.uk
domain3.com
I want any @domain address to forward to my gmail, and I'd like to be able to reply back (via gmail) on the same domain
is this something I can do with the Mythic Beasts "Email only" redirection service?
I don't forward - I setup mailboxes for each account and use them from my email client. Having done that, my email client will only let me reply to "mailbox addresses" - so in other words :I have
domain1.com
domain2.co.uk
domain3.com
I want any @domain address to forward to my gmail, and I'd like to be able to reply back (via gmail) on the same domain
is this something I can do with the Mythic Beasts "Email only" redirection service?
If my mailbox is "mailbox@mydomain.co.uk" (and it's used for all email addresses to mydomain.co.uk), then with my email client I can only reply from mailbox@mydomain.co.uk - even if I specify an explicit email address (e.g. info@mydomain.co.uk).
If use their recommended web based email client (roundcube) then I can reply from explicit email addresses (like info@mydomain.co.uk).
I'd assume I'd have exactly the same issues with email forwarding - so it may depend purely on whether your gmail app lets you do it.
Although I don't use gmail for anything day to day, I do have a gmail account - and the gmail app on my phone - so if nobody gives a better answer I can have a play around this evening and setup an address to forward to gmail and see whether I can reply from it.
ETA : Just tried it. I can forward to my gmail account no problem but the gmail app doesn't give me any option to change the "from" field when I reply, so it will just be sent from my gmail address.
I think this is more a client thing than a domain hosting thing though?
ETA 2 : Found the setting to set Alias in Gmail. So yes, you can do what you want

Hmm Zen prices are £14.39 a year inc vat with no discount for multi year. Mythic Beasts is £12 inc vat for 2 years (for a .co.uk).
It's certainly true that Zen are not the cheapest, I'm £55/month (was £60) for 1GB FFTP. But I've always found them to be exceptional when it comes to customer service.I use https://blinkweb.co.uk/web-hosting/ run by someone here. The do a healthy discount for PH too.

Been using them for over 15 years for a few domains and email forwarding. Only one minor issue in that time which was my problem rather than anything in their remit. (iirc it was sender policy framework stuff, took a couple of hours to figure out and fix).
