I recently bought a new iPhone from an Apple Store in Florida. Unfortunately my eSIM didn’t copy to the new phone so I had to request a replacement from my provider (a number between 2 and 4).

They said they had a recent policy change due to fraud and refused to email a replacement SIM. They said it could only be requested via their app. Fair enough, I had the app and my login details BUT it required a verification code was sent by text so I couldn’t receive it.

All this meant that for several days I was unable to access my bank accounts, credit card accounts or check into my flight. All of those were on apps needing verification codes for the new phone.

Surely there must be a better way?

I assume if you weren’t away from home, you can call them and they’d post one to you?

What happens if you, shock horror, lose your phone?

All your apps/passwords etc are gone.

The mobile provider sending you a SIM card to your home address is the only way to get the ball rolling again for everything.


I can understand why they don’t want to do eSIM etc.

I was in the USA and bought an iPhone 16 Pro, the USA version doesn’t have a slot for physical SIM. It’s eSIM only, my old phone which I traded in also had an eSIM.

I still protect the SIM with a lock code in case the phone gets stolen.
