I have a Porsche 981 with their standard PCM 3.1 head unit. One of the components within the unit is a small spinny hard drive for the sat nav. Apparently these can fail resulting in the unit constantly rebooting as it searches for info from the HDD.

I've read that the preventative solution is to clone the old hard drive onto a new 240gb SSD drive.

My question is can i clone it using my MAC? I have the available SATA adapters to do so from some spare external drive enclosures, but will mac compliant software do the business without messing with my existing car HDD? I have had issues in the past swapping windows drives being read by my MAC and vice versa, so reluctant to meddle.

You can probably use dd, this will just copy the raw blocks, doesnt matter what the actual format is.

In the interests of my sanity, I have ordered from Amazon a Fiduco hard drive docking station that supports cloning. I think it may be £20 well spent (famous last words..).
