My mum has an aging Moto G9 which works but is out of support and slowing down and the camera is pretty rubbish.

I have an iPhone XS which is good as new except it needs a battery.

At some point I keep meaning to get an iPhone 16 but honestly the XS still seems snappy as hell for normal use and the camera seems better than the G9.

The next bit of man maths is whether there is any usable life in my iPhone XS to pass on if I get the battery replaced by Apple or do I suggest my mum get a new budget phone like a Moto G35 or G55?

She just doesn't use it enough to justify buying an iPhone but I'm surprised how slow and frankly rubbish some of the new entry level Android phones I've used recently seem to be.

I've not used them for long but I don't think I'm missing much and I don't see too many comparisons online that cover that sort of thing so wondered if anyone has any thoughts?

Get a new iPhone 16 and then buy your mother a Pixel 7a.

Both will be supported for years.

If you give your mother your XS, will you have to act as her tech support while she gets used to iOS?

XS support is being dropped next year by Apple. Not worth replacing the battery on that. Especially if you will use it for internet banking or wotnot.
