Recently bought a couple of WIFI timers to control Christmas tree lights.
It says they are 24GHz?
When I try to connect them to my home broadband which is with Sky it refuses to connect both on Android and Apple says it won't work on 5GHz and to connect the WIFI to 24GHz.
I am a bit lost, what is this 24GHz and 5GHz?
I have a timer on my normal lights and it connects without issue (different make).

Erm, 2.4GHz...
Just set them up to the 2.4GHz channel from your router, should be visible.
That will only work if the default settings have been changed to broadcast separate 5 and 2.4Ghz networks. Just set them up to the 2.4GHz channel from your router, should be visible.

The problem is your phone is connected to a 5ghz wifi, and the app uses the wifi settings your phone is using. So there are a few ways to deal with it.
As suggested separate the 2.4 and 5 ghz channels on the router, and connect the phone to the 2.4 channel.
Switch off the 5ghz channel on the router, if possible whilst setting up the app, it can be re enabled after setup.
Setup the plugs on an older device that only has 2.4 wifi, this may be difficult as those devices were redundant a long time ago.
Setting up 2.4 ghz devices will be far easier if you separate the channels on your router.
