Siri Won't give Audible Directions

If I ask Siri to give me directions on my iPhone I can't get spoken audible directions.

I can follow the route on the map, but I can't get Siri to give me spoken directions.

What am I doing wrong?

Do you have the mute switch on? It blocks some audio even when you have an app running.

On the older models it's a switch top left, a customisable button on the new ones.

There is also a setting for the navigation to have spoken - under the settings app, maps, spoken directions where you can choose the volume/etc.

All of those seem to be set to 'on' where appropriate.

Do you have an Apple Watch on at all? That seems to ring a bell with me when I had the same… can’t recall how it was fixed though.
