I am looking for a new tablet for my Dad, probably 10 or 11".

He uses it mostly for Youtube and internet, online papers etc so no games. Speaker quality and top screen quality not that important as he doesn't use it for netflix and the like - storage is not really needed either. Speedy start up and use he would like though.

The budget is £100 to £200 or so, but I see a lot of cheapo ones on Amazon - are any of these any good when set against the more expensive well known brands?

Anyone any recent recommendations?

Have a look at Blackview tablets on Amazon. I bought one a couple of years ago just to amuse myself in bed (!) and it's surprisingly good, far better than I expected for the price. Their Tab60pro-TX model with Android 15 should be available soon.

Bought 3 Doogee tablets over the past 12 months. Can't fault them so far.

I've had one of this for about a year, does everything I want it to without any issue.

Wife is in the ecosystem, so I got her a 10th gen 10.9-inch iPad (Wi-Fi, 64GB) and she's very happy with it, feels like a nice size to me.

Mainly used for iPlayer/Netflix/Youtube.

Never stopped anyone saying "get an iPad" before, when what the OP wanted was not an iPad hehe

Same here. Very impressed with it, it's a really nice unit. That's a good price as well, I paid £229 back in April though mine is a 128GB model.

My main use is sofa surfing, as a Kindle by the pool, or watching movies during a flight, and it's absolutely perfect for that. My one (and only one) critisicm is that charging is slow, but it's not really a big problem as the battery life is plenty for a long flight or using it as a Kindle by the pool all day.

I was just commenting, that it appear a nice balance in terms of size, and the performance was ample for a similar task.

I've been using this in my car as a head unit for the past year or so and it's coped well with the temperature changes, previous cheapo tablet would reboot in summer when the car was parked up in the sun.

Some good suggestions thanks. smile

Samsung slightly puts me off due to bloatware, but maybe they are not as bad as they used to be?

I either go for Pixel phones or tablets/other phones with not much bloatware that I can get fairly close to a basic android experience - I have spent may years training my Dad to get used to Android, so anything that looks a bit different he will struggle with unless I can easily remove the bloat. (familiarity is another reason a why anything Apple is not going to work for him, notwithstanding the cost).

I got my son a Lenovo 10" one earlier in the year, no bloatware runs well.

Got 2 for the kids, recommended. As above, charging could be quicker, but they're good devices.

Create a script that runs at boot that disables it. Or at a certain time every day.
