Tech ignoramus here. I've recently started to use an Alexa at home and would like one in the bathroom ceiling (mainly as a radio). It seems the Echo Dot would be the best as far as shape and ease of fixing in place goes, but the speaker is ste. Is there an alternative that would sit flat and be available in white? Or a speaker that does the same job and works off a voice command?

I've often wondered how they'd fare with the steam from a hot bath or shower.

We put one on a USB battery pack to try it, worked great but ran out of power within days. So wall mounted it a bit like this:

It basically plays the sound inside the wall and is louder in the room behind than the bathroom. Livid. hehe

You can get battery bases for the Echo devices, we have a couple for Dots. Very handy, easy to take Alexa temporarily into bathrooms or outdoors. No problems using in bathrooms. They're not official devices, so battery life is variable, but usually around 12-24h.

Have a look at Lithe Audio:

https://www.litheaudio.com/all-ceiling-speakers/li...

They do other version - Bluetooth etc. They are active so you just need to power it from the lighting circuit which is already above the cieling.

That's not a bad idea - I have one for when I take it into my "garden"

Does it have to be installed into the ceiling or can it sit or hang somewhere?

(there are numerous alexa-enabled bluetooth bathroom speakers on Amazon for relative pennies)

In my ceiling I have a Dot driving some external speakers mounted into the ceiling. Works fine to play Spotify controlled off my phone or via a group, bit iffy if you want to shout at the deaf cowbag five or ten times till she gets it use the voice command functionality.

John Lewis are currently selling the Sonos Roam 2 for £139. It's waterproof and can use Alexa. You can also buy a wireless charging base for it and the sound is excellent.
