How Apple find my works

I’ve a missing AirPod pro 2.
Find my says it was last seen in Nottingham at 11pm yesterday.
I was at the address, but I am damned if I know how the AirPod escaped from the case and my briefcase whilst at the address.
Does anyone know if find my could be misleading me?
TIA
...but escaped it presumably has, since you don't have it with you?Find my says it was last seen in Nottingham at 11pm yesterday.

Can you contact someone at the last known location to check?

hopefully whoever cleans the bar found your AirPod and it's waiting for you there
I actually don't know if an AirPod will ping for a bluetooth device to see it when it's "lost". I assume last seen was when you left it last night?

My guess is that, if Apple isn't lying to me, it's down the back of one of two sofas. I will find out in a little over an hour.
I didn't take the airpod charging case out of my briefcase, in the bar.
I have just done what I should have done originally - ask a teenager. The response "nah, Find My for Airpods is crap Known fact. Don't rely on it".
My working assumption is that it's not in the bar.
I've set Find My to "lost".
So I'll have to disagree with your teenager!
I found Find My to be really useful. Last month I went up to Newcastle to watch the football (about 250 miles away from where I live) and I parked up in a hotel car park. I was in a bit of a rush and managed to drop my Airpods out of my pocket getting out of the car. I realised when I was at the match and initially thought I had just left them in the car. Unfortunately when I got back I couldn't find them anywhere, even though Find My was showing them somewhere in the hotel. They hadn't been handed into hotel reception, so I left my details and as it was getting late so I had to set off to get back home again.
Over the course of the next day I could see that they had left the hotel, I could see which house and street they went to overnight and then went back to the hotel...suggesting it was someone who worked there....I contacted the hotel reception, provided details of where they had been over night and they were able to trace where they were and send them back to me...
Got to say it was pretty accurate the whole time!

The problem I have is that it is one bud, outside of the case.
It is not picked up by my phone when I return to where it was last seen. So it is presumably either not there or dead.
Our local Apple dealer also said that a single lost bud can be tricky.
I think Find My is a bit wonky with airpods. My wife had this recently.
Find My was suggesting they were out of the case, on the pitch at Colchester United. Whilst we do go and watch Col U, we don't go on the pitch haha.
So my wife did have them in her bag when we were last watching the game a week previously. I can only think that Find My hadn't updated since.
She later found the Airpods at home in the charging case. So the whole Col U thing was completely wrong.

You can replace a single bud in an Apple Store- costs about £50
£79 and they have to send everything off to Apple.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
