I'm assuming most have heard the annoying advert on the radio for this directory enquirery service,
'CALLS TO 118 212 COST £2.50 PER CALL PLUS £0.75 PER MINUTE (MINIMUM 1 MINUTE CHARGE), PLUS YOUR PHONE COMPANY'S ACCESS CHARGE'

With how easy it is to google anything these days from a smart phone is the above just a way of fleecing the older generation?

I was surprised to hear an advert for this earlier today. There was a flurry of them a good few years back when 192 stopped being a thing. I assumed that with smartphones now being ubiquitous, that the service would have been quietly mothballed.

I had cause to use it once, about 18 years ago - I was on holiday in Wales and needed to find LPG to fill the car, no data and no local knowledge. Called one of the 118 services and spent about 5 minutes trying to explain what LPG was, then a further 5 minutes trying to get them to understand where Gwynedd was. It would have been cheaper and less hassle to just fill up with unleaded.

"Do you want connecting to the number?"
"FFS no, I can't afford any more, just give me the number"
