An AVI 720p video is 38mins long and 1 404 000KBs

Using a free online video trimmer I trim it to 15mins keeping the same settings, and the trimmed version is now
1 300 000KBs

How can this be, what am I doing wrong ?

What online video editing tool are you using? I’d hazard a guess that it might have an “output” section that allows you to choose resolution, codecs and bitrates … It’s likely one of these factors that’s causing your output file to be large, even though you’ve trimmed the video down considerably e.g. check the resolution is not outputting at 1920 x 1080 (HD), if the original video is only 720P smile

Agree with the above.

It may help to check both the original and the output using MediaInfo to get the actual details of the files to get actual sizes / dimensions and encoding details.

Probably exporting at a higher resolution/bit rate than the original file.
