Please help - I'm totally stuck here!!

I've broken my phone (Motorola Razr). Smashed the screen and cant access anything.

I've bought a replacement (LGF G6).

I cannot synch or sign into anything without Google Account telling me they've sent verification to my old phone.

I can't believe there is no way to set up a new phone without access to the old one.

They tell me they've sent a verification to my old phone.

I select 'try another way' and the text option is greyed out.

Surely this is common? Broken or stolen phones?

Am I missing something?

If you put the old sim in the new phone, surely the new phone will receive the notifications?

I'm missing something I guess, sorry.

Can you log into your Google account on a laptop or something?

You might be able to approve the login there

They send push notification to your Google account rather than by text

There should be (definitely used to be) the option to get a txt.
Log into your account on a pc and see if that helps.
