Not for me but for a parent who has an Android phone and now also has an apple ultra 2 watch... just dont ask.

Watch setup asks for a phone connection which they dont have (being android) so is the watch useless to them?

You can pick up an iPhone SE for £100 used, it’s a way to get it setup.

The ultra watches have their own SIMs so don’t need a phone for normal use after setup.

So... I could set it up on my iphone then remove it from my phone afterwards?

Sorry if this sounds dumb but I know how intertwined apple stuff gets. I used to be in IT... honest.

Yes, could could set it up that way I think. I have had a couple over the years. They could still use it to track steps and calorie usage etc.

Nope, unpairing will erase the watch ready to be paired again. It's very much assumed that it'll be the same iPhone owning person wearing the watch.

They either need an iPhone or a different watch.

I expect it will end up in a drawer... along with the other Apple Watch they have. Again, just don't ask.

Sounds like eBay calling.

In that case, take your time ordering it. Maybe they'll get fed up of waiting and buy a Casio F-91W if it takes you more than a few weeks. biggrin

They bought one watch, which they couldn’t use because they don’t have an iPhone, put it in a drawer, and then bought another one, that happens to be the most expensive, and ran into the same problem? Maybe they could donate to charity or something?

Why not keep it on your phone? You would get their health data and be alerted if they were having a heart attack. Might be useful.

This is the answer - it will work on the Ultra 2, but only on the other Watch if it is a cellular model.

Cheers, it's an option but as previously suggested if he really wants it working I might dig out an old phone or just buy one and say "its a spare" he can use instead of his crappy Samsung which is falling apart.

I'd rather not have it linked to my phone as if anything ever goes wrong it will come back to me to sort out which isnt easy when hes on the other side of the world half the time.

Just tell them to sell it and get an Android smart watch; even if they did set it up it would be pretty pointless and useless without an iPhone. It's frankly perverse to try and set it up without one.

Oh, I got it - just thinking that if you wait long enough, it will end up in the drawer without you having to do any work.
