My father has a very old phone with an old large size PAYG SIM card.

He’s now got an iPhone X and a new pay monthly SIM card.

I’d like to now port his old PAYG number to the new sim.

Issue is he can’t power on the old phone he’s lost the charger!) to send the PAC code and we don’t have another phone that will take the large PAYG SIM card to allow us to send the PAC code.

Any ideas? Can he take the large PAYG SIM card to the shop ( eg Vodafone ) and ask them to swap the SIM to a smaller nano/ micro sim that will fit the iPhone X?

Thanks

essayer

When did he last use the PAYG phone? IIRC Vodafone disconnect after 90 days of non-use

Cut the SIM card down to a size that fits the phone. I’ve done it a few times, just measure twice and cut once as they say using another sim as a template.

Good question re when he last used it. Not sure but hoping within last 90 days.

Re cutting down. The card is the old size that’s about the size of a postage stamp. It’s all chip so cutting it would mean cutting through the printed circuit. Is that ok?

In my experience the chip is only behind where the copper contacts are, the rest is just plastic. It’s full size sims that I’ve cut down to micro sim size in the past. You’ll find plenty of guides and videos on line for how to do it.

You certainly can do that with EE, as I did just that a few weeks ago.

Or call customer services and ask for a new nano sim and port the old number over?

I don’t think the old phone needs to be working for that to happen.

Or find (or borrow) the charger. I bet if you asked on here someone would have one.

I've got a multi-adaptor charger cable somewhere. Like a black spider with god knows how many different antique mobile phone charging connectors and a USB to connect to a plug in charger.
It was useful when I bought it but I have no use for it now. I'll have a look for it this afternoon when I get in. Assuming I find it you can have it if you want it.

Just remembered it was in the car...

PM if you want it.

But cutting the SIM card works fine if you're careful, or a phone shop might still have the cropping tool for it. They were common enough not long ago.

Search Amazon for sim cutter. They are a tenner, should solve your problem.

Thank you ever so much for the further feedback and thank you for the kind offer of the multi charger.

I don’t know the make / model of phone from memory and my father is 250 miles away so might take a day to work it out. But the sim cutter or the high street look like equally good options.

Thanks again. I’ll post back in a day or so.
