So here’s the rumour/inside info. Who’s up for the change?

Yes. I loved my 12 mini but the battery life was poor.

I'm happy with my iPhone 8 so something comparable in September would be good. I'll probably replace it as it'll no longer run the latest OS and it's on its second battery which, despite still being at 91% capacity, has a warning saying its health is significantly degraded and to replace, though it's performing normally.

Those of us who want the mini form factor back are in the minority unfortunately - loads of people on forums are really enthusiastic about small phones but they just don’t sell very well and the masses want bigger and bigger phones. Even saw a rumour the new SE will be based on the 15.
My personal phone is a 12 mini and my work phone is a 15 - the 15 I just find too big and heavy to use comfortably and is such a slab to carry around.

yep. on a 13 mini with replacement battery. will probably mean i turn away from apple when the time comes that it doesn't run the software anymore.

The SE is a good mini phone, and has powerful chips in it too so it can run all the latest OS/software.

I’ve had three of them now. Rumour is they will release a new style one next year, but the 2020 SE2 is still a good phone.

I picked up my last one for only £120 with a new battery on eBay.

This. The battery was truly shocking on my 12 mini too and then opted for the 13PM as the anti-thesis of it and loved it. Currently on a 15P and still regret changing my 13PM for it.

Ive been debating this week whether to chop in my 15P for a 13 mini and getting a battery refresh on it but given Ive replaced all my cables with USBc etc. it just seems like it might be more than a small step backwards.

Now, if they change the form-factor of the AW then I will happily change my S9 for an S10!

Is that base not covered by the SE?

Apple know what the optimum phone size is and they save it for the their most expensive line… the Pros.

It’s typical Apple smile

Yes, but the SE has been around for a while now. I don't want to buy one and find, after a short while that, like the 8, it will no longer support new operating systems. If they keep it in September and upgrade the chip for greater longevity then I'll get one. I hope so as I prefer Touch ID.

On an 8+ which still works fine but can no longer run the latest iOS as noted. So it’s time to change…

Have been holding out for the 16 but Amazon are currently selling the 15 pro max for £989 which could be a better bet.

Yes, that’s tempting. I’m going to hold on and see what the 16 offers before deciding though.

I’m on the XS and thinking it’s near time to get a new one. Been thinking of waiting for the 16 mostly for the usbc connection, then found out the 15 has it too, so may just get one of those when they come down after the new one is released unless there’s some significant change which there probably won’t but we shall see.

I used to like getting a new phone when they came out but there’s never any significant change of spec / looks to warrant it.

It’s looking like 10 September. I like the bit about larger batteries, I struggle to get a full day from mine.

I bought an iPhone 2020 SE from Amazon for £130 refurbed with a 100% battery and in mint nick, and I'm running iOS 18 Beta on it at the moment. I use it when I want to travel light after marvelling at how tiny my iPhone 6S was; it's so tiny! And it's still perfectly usable, I have a 15 Pro Max for my usual phone and the SE is not at all frustrating. Battery isn't great of course, but does get you through the best part of a day if you're not hammering it.

Not going to bother with the 16 Pro Max of course. Rumours of the 17 Slim next year are intriguing though...

I honestly thought the new SE would be a 13 mini sized handset with a better battery life. If it was, I'd definitely buy one.

Shame small handsets are a thing of the past now.
