My phone had a fit & claimed there was moisture in the charging port! 100% no chance so I cleaned it with IPA and it works fine again.

I've noticed that the phone only charges with the lead one way around, it's not the charger & not the lead.

Talking to a mate with an S24 Ultra his is the same? My wife's S22+ works with the plug either way around.

So, are our phones faulty are all Ultra's like this? The charging board is only £20 so an easy cheap fix but rather not bother if they really "all do this"!!

Cheers

I've had my S22U a couple of years now and can't say I've had the same issues with charging. The 'moisture in port' message has come up a couple of times but that was because the phone had definitely got wet. Is it definitely not a cable issue? Tried buying a new USB-C cable to try?

100% not the cable, tried new cable, no change. Same cable works both ways with wife's phone.

USB C ports are prone to failing charge in one direction if they are damaged. Could be as simple as a fibre left over after you cleaned it though. Have you some compressed air to blow it out?

Not Ultra but another Samsung Galaxy handset: The USB port on my S10e eventually went bad (for charging and data) - supposedly USB-C ports are rated for thousands upon thousands of insertions but clearly not the case. Out of warranty by the time it started going bad so I just moved to Qi wireless charging.

I now always make sure to use Wireless for charging if my device supports it and if its something like a tablet, see if there is a dedicated dock with separate connector for charging (many have pogo pins on the tablet, or electrical pads for a dock charger).

Thanks everyone, deffo 100% clean, used IPA solvent and air. I think I'll buy the (genuine) board while I can & fit it when it eventually dies both ways!

Annoying as never had this problem with any of my older phones.

Worth grabbing a wireless charger - I try to avoid plugging in unless I need a fast charge to save the ports getting cruddy.

Cleaned it again with a screen wipe cloth & it now works perfectly!

USB C must be REALLY fussy!

Cleaning it with India Pale Ale is likely the problem.

My S21 ultra came up with moisture detected after using it with a dji drone controller. I understand there's an issue with fast charging enabled and using it to have the video from the controller and it blew a fuse in the charging port. I had the port replaced locally for about £25 and it now charges as before with the cable plugged in either way around. I had to use a wireless charger while the error was present and the heat generated with a case on puts me off using that long term.

I had exactly the same with my iPhone 15.. usb-c had some fluff in it so I cleared using a needle and next thing it was saying ‘water in connector’. A bit more cleaning and it went away, probably something shorted the pins..

I've a S23 Ultra, before that a S22 and S20 all had issues with the charging pin. This one you've really got to fiddle with the cable to get the charging to commence. I've a compressed air cleaning can and doesn't seem to be an issue.

You've to wipe them to get them sent off for repair which is more inconvenient with living with the problem with wireless charging as a backup.

Last Samsung I'll be parting with my money.
