I suspect I am on to a loser here but it can't hurt to ask the hive mind...

Is there a wireless technology that would allow a 15Mbps link, over approx 200 metres with a single house in the way, and wouldn't require a house-height mast and/or a licence, and that isn't Starlink or 4/5G?

Up until the weekend, the other property had its own broadband connection, which was used exclusively to carry VPN traffic to my home network.

For reasons that are silly and annoying, the broadband connection at our other property has been terminated by a well meaning relative. I discovered this when all the network enabled stuff needed at that property went offline and Mrs D facepalmed whilst muttering "I explicitly told her not to do that".

To get everything back up and running I could just start an entirely new 18 month contract, but the network traffic from the other property is a pretty steady 10-15Mbps upload to my house, and 1Mbps download, so I thought "maybe I can accomplish the same thing with an RF link?"

Unfortunately some clot built a house right on the line of sight between the two properties, clearly not considering the implications on me having a wireless link 100 years later.

You could try with a 2.4GHz point to point wireless link (Ubiquiti Nanostation or similar) - although you are 'supposed' to have LOS, they seem to work 'reasonably' well with NLOS.

I had a ~1 mile link for similar reasons - no line of site, with trees and the brow of a hill in the way. It wasn't perfect, but it worked well enough. 5GHz worked well initially, but got progressively worse when the trees had leaves, and much worse when the leaves were wet. 2.4GHz wasn't affected as much.

If both houses are on the same electric phase I would try an ethernet over electric adapter. They should work up to 300meters....worth a go

I'd suggest a chat with these people, see if they have anything suitable. https://www.solwise.co.uk/wireless-outdoor-bridgin...

If that house is truly in the way, is there any possibility of getting a bridge installed there? An additional hop shouldn't have much effect.

This is what I would try.

I think you may struggle to get 15Mb/s over that range legally licence free.
It's probably do-able with some high gain antennas, dishes maybe, aimed at the top of the intervening house, you should get some diffraction....

It will be made harder if there's lots of other 2.4GHz wifi, bluetooth and so-on being used nearby.

Can you not get line of sight by raising both ends on the chimneys or whatever? A couple of old windusrfer masts or stout bamboo?

Carrier pigeons and microSD cards?

hehe made me laugh, that.

Thanks all, I hadn't actually thought about a point-point wifi bridge. Amazing how the simplest solution can evade one so easily. Currently looking at used ubiquiti Nanostations on eBay and watching YT videos where people have used them for similar. I'll get something ordered and add this to the DIY list.

Trying to resist doing the old Pringles Cantenna as I don't have time for a proper project biglaugh

I'd be nailing a fibre on top of the fence panels for 200m.

Unfortunately I'd need to nail it to someone else's fence and cross a road hehe

Have currently delayed the project to extend donknet due to family issues, will have a go again once I have some fixing time.

No line of sight will likely be a problem, unless there’s something to bounce off for a propagation path.
