As per this thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... I've just bought a new Reolink doorbell to replace my Ring.

The Ring's PSU outputs 24V 20VA (which I understand is 20W). The Reolink's PSU outputs 24V 12W.

Can I continue to use the Ring's 20W PSU with the new doorbell, which apparently only draws 12W?

I believe that the voltage has to be the same, and the wattage must be the same or greater than the device requires.

You are correct. The voltage is the same & the old PSU has plenty of capacity to drive the new doorbell.

Just make sure of the AC/DC question though - check that the PSU is the same as the new doorbell (AC or DC).

Thank you.

AC/DC was my next question. The Ring says "Output 23VAC 20VA" and the Reolink's PSU (which has "AC/DC adapter" on it) says "Output 24V 0.5A 12W", but it was has the DC current symbol of a dasjed line beneath a solid one.

They're both 3-pin adapters, but the Ring's wiring is buried in the wall/door frame. So it looks like I'm going to have to cut the plug off and join the new one into the existing wiring... frown

Yep, it's a good job you checked. Wagos are good for quick cable joins.

If you can't solder then these would also allow you to join the cables but they aren't very neat (but better than a Wago):

I'll use Wagos, and go and find a terminal box to hide it all in.

Thanks again for your help. thumbup
