I like my cycling and have been using eurosport, but now moved to Discovery+ as eurosport is being killed off.

Currently I'm using an Amazon Firestick with Eurosport app. Both the TV and the Firestick are ethernet connected to the router. Once streaming, it's OK.

The problem is both the Firestick and the Discovery+ app seem to be very slow to react to requests. Amazon is slow to react to remote requests, and the app response is just painfully slow.

What's the best way to get Discovery+ onto my TV? Are different boxes faster doing their processing or have better app implementation?

I watch Discovery Plus on my main TV (5 year old Sony running Android) and kitchen TV (using Google TV dongle). Both are a little slow but nothing horrific - couple of seconds to open and another second or so to move through menu options. Not noticeably worse than iPlayer or Prime

FWIW - I gave up on any of the built-in Android stuff (far too chatty on the network) and as most of my kit is Apple, I ended up with AppleTVs, instead of FireSticks, etc... Never had any problems.

I use Discovery+ on the AppleTVs as well as from the Sky "puck" devices and its just as fast as any other app IMO - no lag or issues here.

I use D+ on a Roku stick, which is fine for picture quality, but navigation is also a bit sluggish. I also have a media PC connected to the television and actually just using it in a browser directly is the fastest method, but it's also a bit more fiddly.

Discovery Plus is also terrible on the LG apps. Don't know how they manage to make it so bad across platforms.

I use discovery + on a firestick.

Was a really bad experience freezing etc but I bought a new stick last year i think it is the 4k version and it is perfect, never frozen responsive, no lag. I'm guessing the new stick has more cpu/ ram etc.

I go to the Discovery + website, and then cast using a Chromecast to the TV.

https://www.discoveryplus.com/gb

Seems pretty simple, quality is good etc.

(EDIT - you can do the same from an Android tablet or phone too).

I'm also into the cycling, used Eurosport but had to move to Discovery+ too. I use a Google Chrome cast with Google TV 4k.
Works very well and currently half price in Argos (£30).

How old's the Fire Stick? Quite possibly reached the EOL in terms of usability. I'm not a huge fan of most streaming devices as they're underpowered. Plus the amount of bloatware on the majority doesn't help.

Another Apple TV vote for the hardware. The Discovery+ app isn't fantastic either.

Update. The Fire Stick was bought in 2017 for £30. I only use it for Eurosport (now Discovery+) and rare visits to Prime video.
So I've replaced it with a Chrome Cast as recommended above.

Day and night difference now watching Eurosport. Picture quality is better, and I don't have time to make tea between channel changes! It just works well.

Thank you everybody for the suggestions.thumbup
