Here's a burning question. I use Messenger a lot on my PC and I'm having a problem.
FB keeps boasting about end-to-end encryption for privacy and security and it's
wiping older messages. I believe that there's some sort of storage facility that can be
enabled to keep messages on but I can't find out how to turn it on.
I emailed FB help and support but this didn't even bother to reply so that's NFG.
Anybody know the way round this please?

Sorry I cant help. I dont use it much, but I just checked my archives and all my old messages are there so I am not seeing what you are seeing.

I don't use it myself, but my wife asked me last week for help with a prompt in the Messenger app on her phone.
It was asking her to set a 6 digit PIN and asking if she wanted Messenger to store backups on her G Drive storage.
So that was probably related to what you describe.
