My expat dads over for a few months in the UK.

He's got a dual SIM phone which I've put a UK SIM into.

I've just found out that WhatsApp now allows you to have multiple accounts in the same app, so have set up another account for him on his UK SIM phone number.

Looking at how it works is that you can switch between each account easily which is fine and send messages and make calls depending on the account you've switched into.

The issue we have is if someone calls him on the account which he isn't using at the time, the phone doesn't ring. You only get a notification saying someone is calling on your other account and it then asks you to hit a button to switch accounts and then once done, the phone starts ringing.

Is anyone using this dual account feature and if someone calls you from either account, does the phone ring or do you have to switch into the account first?

The internet hasn't bought up much from what I can find apart from a Reddit post asking the same without resolution, and my dad is missing calls from his primary account due to it not ringing.

TIA

I hadn't realised they'd added this multiple account feature.
Interesting as I also use 2 numbers for WhatsApp. Similar situation to your dad.

What I've done for years now is use WhatsApp with my main number, and use WhatsApp Business for the lesser used number which older friends and family have.
Two separate apps so never any hassle or issues.

Yeah it's a good feature, but as my dad's retired he's not that great with tech so the account switching thing is a bit of a pain.
I might see if he's got the app clone feature on his phone or like you have said put WhatsApp business onto it as well.

That way the phone rings for both accounts.

Lots of android phones will have dual messenger or parallel app options, which will just have 2 instances of whatsapp running, rather than using the feature within whatsapp itself. This should solve the issue

Yeah, cloned WhatsApp so now have 2 apps running at the same time.

Works perfect.
