Anyone getting one?
I’ll be upgrading from my 12 to a 16 Pro, as I’ve never had a Pro before. I’ll also be getting AppleCare+ Theft cover which I’ve also never had before, the idea being I won’t have to worry about protecting the phone with a case etc.
iPhone upgrades aren’t what they used to be are they, with only minor changes seen from one year to the next. I guess they don’t seem to need to be much better than they are these days.

Applecare+ doesn’t include cosmetic damage, which is one of the main reasons I keep a case on my iPhone
At least It will allow me to just use a normal case whereas I’ve previously always used a wallet type case that flips over and protects the screen. Will be nice to not have to be quite so protective of it. Edited by The Gauge on Wednesday 10th July 15:57
Yeah, I'll be getting one. Not sure of what the specs and extra features will be yet, but I have a 12 Pro Max so it should be a worthy upgrade. The charging port doesn't work unless you hold the cable at a certain angle, so I have to use wireless chargers.
Going to buy one from Apple and get the Mrs. EE discount on a cheap contract. Currently paying about £20 a month with Sky. I'm fed up with Sky's network being constantly worse than the Mrs. on an older iPhone. If I have 3G she has 4G, if I have 4G she has 5G. 3G is now totally useless and even sometimes when I get 5G, it's clearly not as it's slow as hell. Couple that with Sky's roaming charges every time I go abroad.
The only thing I'm not sure about is what screen cover and case to get. I bought direct from the Apple store last time out and paid a lot of money to have what I thought would be good quality. The screen protector cracked at the first sign of a pocket and the case dissolved after about 3 months!

Had a 6S for 8 or 9 years and only moved to a 14 Plus last year when it became unsupported and battery needed recharging 3 to 4 times a day.
My 14 Plus developed a fault (rebooting every 3 minutes) just after the warranty ran out and needed new rear system, camera and battery. Apple replaced all for free so cannot fault the customer service and why it stay loyal (having a MacBook Air also a reason).

Still got my 13 Pro and can’t see any reasons why I would want to upgrade just yet. Just waiting for details on the 16 before deciding for whether it’s worth upgrading or simply having a new battery fitted in the 13.
Slightly bigger, slightly better camera.Everything else will be available in iOS 18
Yep, I’ll be getting a new battery and staying with my trusty 13 Pro.

I’d always done the same, but they stopped doing leather cases when the 15 came out last year.
Ah that’s a shame. Think I’ll pass on the 16, and I always use to be on a 2-3 year cycle. Just can’t justify the cost over the improvement.I’ll bung it on a new car in a few months
Thinking about getting one too when they’re out. Currently got an xs and tbf it still works fine so not entirely sure I will. I like the squared shape of the newer ones and that’s probably the main reason and that I’ve had this one around 5/6yrs. When I’ve looked at newer ones, unless I get the pro then my camera has more zoom which I do like.

That could be fluff in your lightening port, try a cocktail stick to clean it out. Mine was beyond that so I took it to a phone/computer repair shop and they give it a deep clean, I think they dipped it into one of those cleaning tanks, and it solved the problem.Screens have been hard enough not to need a cover for a while now. I just make sure the case has a raised lip surrounding the screen so if the phone lands face down, the lip, not the screen takes the impact.
I really like Tudia cases which offer a good balance between cost, protection and quality.
In my pocket, the screen faces my leg and the back faces the world. It will save the screen being banged if someone barges you with their bag for example, unfortunately a frequent occurrence on the tube in London.
With a phone with a glass back, I’d get a dual material case with a hard shell covering a softer inner layer to distribute impact force across a wider area.
Haven’t had a cracked screen in years since doing this. Last chipped screen I had, I was using an ultra slim hard shell without a raised lip, and the phone landed face down on concrete. Won’t make that mistake again!

Yeah, I've used a wooden toothpick on it a few times to clean it out. Oddly enough, my sons 12 Pro Max did the same thing and will only charge on wireless. It's not the end of the world but can be a pain at times. I have a 15 pro so won't be bothering moving to a 16.
Apple don't do a leather case anymore for their latest phones, they do something very similar called a "fine woven" case which initially looks and feels very nice, I bought one with my phone but they wear very badly and look really scruffy after a few months. I heard rumours Apple were going to discontinue them due to complaints but it doesn't look like they have as they still list them.
I bought a leather case from a brand called Torro which so far is holding up very well and still looks smart.
I have Apple care+ so don't bother with screen protectors and so far my phone is just fine.

Probably not, but maybe. Ive just had a new battery put in my 13pro so that's given it a new lease of life, but the camera (or one of the lenses) doesn't really focus correctly any more so maybe its time.
One of the camera lenses of my iPhone 12 doesn’t focus and makes a buzzing noise. I was hoping to trade it in but if I do so online I have to declare its condition and the value drops from £190 to £60. I might take it into the Apple Store on the day i purchase the 16 and just let them examine it. Edited by The Gauge on Thursday 11th July 15:38
Not wild about moving on from 13 mini but eldest needs a first smartphone so it makes sense to get the battery changed and give it to her.
Wife and I have usually upgraded at the same time, but I might just take her 13 Pro (again, with a fresh battery change) while she gets a new one - she always does Pros for the better cameras.
