I am sorry for asking this, because I know the answer, but I cant believe what I am being told.

My auntie is currently visiting me here in France and telling me about her daughter and son in laws new camera systems they have at thier house.
She says that when someone goes into their, the camera system can read their mobile phone messages etc. Now, I said, do you mean that the camera is so clear that you can zoom in and see the text on the screen. No she says, he can access their phone and read messages. Cant be true can it?

She is 80 mind you.

Short answer, no, that's not a thing.

It's is technically possible to intercept these types of things though. Tempest - Wikipedia is an example of using radio frequency interception to reconstruct what is on the screen of a computer. That relies on the monitor or cables being 'leaky' though, and a receiver picking up those signals and reconstructing them into an image. I've seen a live demo of it with an old PC and a VGA monitor, but while hypothetically possible with a mobile phone, I'd say it's almost impossible in the real world.

Certainly no consumer available camera system is doing such a thing.
