I have a virtually blind Mother who now uses Siri to send messages and make calls.

It generally works well, and she has grasped the concept quite quickly.

However, a problem has arisen when she needs to call somewhere that uses the press 1 for this type switchboard.

She’ made a call, and asked Siri to press 1 but that didn’t work.

Anyone know if we can get round this issue or make it work ?

You can add pauses to contacts with a comma so:

01234 567890,1 or 01234 567890,,,1 for a longer pause. You can also speak this command to siri for when you have to call a number rather than a contact, not sure if this helps?

Not sure if it helps but you can get DMTF generators too (this is what IVRs listen for so you could program a keypad to emit the correct DMTF tones but I am getting into the relm of ballache here)
