Fitbit app broken?

I have a pixel watch 2 and recently noticed I was doing a massive amounts of steps on the watch compared to how many actual steps I was doing.
I reset the watch before bed which put the count to 0, however after waking it seems I've done 1000 steps already.

It seems like the issue is with the Fitbit app as those steps didn't reset so when synching to the watch, it put the count back up.

Anyone had this or know of a fix for the app?

It's only started happening recently, maybe after an update.

The device seems fine, it the Fitbit app on the phone that is adding more steps than the watch is counting.
Once the app syncs with the watch, the watch then displays a shed load of extra steps.

No issue here with Pixel 8 Pro and Watch 2. Watch is showing 2303 steps and the phone 2293.

Is it not just pulling through a duplicate data set - one from the device (if its been carried in a pocket / bag / etc,) and one from the watch as well?

My daughters did this until I set the app to only use activity information collected on her fitbit device.

On an Xperia 1 MK4 here with a Fitbit Sense - both showing identical step counts at the moment (10,201).

It does sound like its double counting - although Google in general have been a bit flaky for me the last couple of days. Google Pay only works half the time and our works GMail has been showing lots of weird errors at times - could be related?
