I'm pulling my hair out trying to Sync files (bi-directionally) from my Synology NAS to OneDrive using CloudSync.

Never had a problem for years and suddenly it will only sync files one way - i.e. from the NAS to OneDrive, but not from OneDrive to the NAS.

I have reset the settings in Synology Cloud Sync, and set it to bi-directional syncing, but it will only sync one way.

The only thing I can think of that changed was I upgraded my OneDrive to a paid version from the free offering, however all usernames / passwords stayed the same and all other apps devices seem to have continued working with no issues.

Any ideas why it won't sync from OneDrive to the NAS but will the other way round?

edited to add - it gives error 'Download Failed. Insufficient Privileges'

That could be because the synology app hasn't got the right permissions in onedrive. Can you check in onedrive on the web?

Just checked and full permissions are set for Cloud Sync to access, change, add and delete documents etc in OneDrive.

there is a system internal user called CloudSync. Does it have rights to your shared folder?

It sound like it has R not R/W rights.

If you turned on two-factor Authentication for your Microsoft Account, then this sort of thing is prone to happening. If it's that, usually you follow a method to create an App password for the app on, eg, your Synology box and then sign-in with that password.

CloudSync does not need an App-specific password (IIRC).
Since it seems the sync works in one direction, it's almost certainly permissions.

Permission granted from OneDrive to Cloud Sync -

This is done from the cloud sync set up, and I can view the files of my OneDrive in Synology Cloud Sync and File Station.

Bi- Directional sync setting in Cloud Sync set up -

Yet in the logs only uploads from the Synology NAS to OneDrive are happening. Downloads are failed to Insufficient Privileges.

All users set to read / write.

Something is preventing the download, probably something really simple as it used to work ok.

Read / write for all folders on the NAS.

Although nothing has changed in that respect from when in worked.

I do use snipping tool all the time. Great tool. Just I was posting from my phone while on the laptop.

are those r/w rights for you as a user or for the CloudSync internal user account?
did you try syncing in and out of a different folder?

Using the admin user account.

Tried various folders, and set up new ones to try.

Everything in Onedrive works across all devices

Everything in the NAS works and syncs up to OneDrive.

All read / write permissions seem to be OK

TBH there’s not a lot to get wrong in the CloudSync app, and not many options as it seems to set up the permissions for you.

You should check the permissions either on the shared folder or the folder itself.

The Cloudsync task runs under an internal user. I still think this is the issue. Oddly, it has no access to my share that is syncing every night from OneDrive......

OK so I now have found I can create a new folder in OneDrive and after about 20 mins it appears in the NAS file station, but no documents or files will be downloaded / synced from that folder.

Any ideas??

No biggrin

Did you try uninstalling CloudSync then reinstalling and creating the task from scratch?

Me neither, I’m stumped

Yep. I also screwed up OneDrive trying a few things, so completely removed the OneDrive App aswell, and deleted all the cached info and put in a fresh install.

No difference.

If you're really stuck and want to pay someone then this guy on Youtube does Synology consultancy and might be able to help. His videos are well worth a watch as well.
