How do I open an app full screen
Discussion
It used to open full screen all the time but I have obviously lent on a few keys and cocked something up. When I click a photo to view it in Microsoft Photos it opens the app minimised like this. I can maximise it but when I open the next photo its minimised again.
I am not very computer savvy so have been trying to search for the answer but maybe im not asking the right question.
This is what it is opening like
I want it to open like this

Right, sorry, I couldn't see your exact issue because of your black background. Windows should open apps minimised or maximised depending on how they were when they were last closed. You want it to default to opening in the Maximised state, there's some tips here:

And if you Google for that, you should find a useful answer

Even if I close it when it is maximised, next time I open a picture the app is minimised.paulrockliffe said:

Tried all that, found the bit to set it to maximum and still opening minimisedhttps://www.computerhope.com/tips/tip201.htm

Im going to move all my photos, delete Microsoft Photos and Onedrive and reinstall Microsoft Photos. Maybe it will install in the default setting of maximised.
The image you are showing is the shortcut, it will have no effect.
The reason it doesn't do what you want, is that you have the 'new' version of photos. You need photos legacy. It had the option you want.
Run photos then click the three dots at the top, settings, scroll down to get photos legacy. Try that.

Correct, this is a bug (or intentional anti-feature maybe) in the new Photos app. There have been tonnes of people moaning about the same issue recently on reddit and twitterRun photos then click the three dots at the top, settings, scroll down to get photos legacy. Try that.

The first two pictures I posted were opened from File Explorer not from a shortcut. The reason it doesn't do what you want, is that you have the 'new' version of photos. You need photos legacy. It had the option you want.

I never had a shortcut before today. I could not access the properties on the app with an option to select "run - maximised" so I created the shortcut.
The pictures folders got messed up and the photos are mixed up. I have my back up memory stick and trying to sort it out. im going to delete Microsoft Photos and Onedrive and reinstall Microsoft Photos.

Just re reading this and im struggling to understand how it matters to the maker whether the user opens the app minimised or maximised. How does it affect them, apart from the negativity and people slagging them off in forums.Cotty said:

I'm just a bit jaded with Microsoft. It's most likely a bug they will fix at some point. But Microsoft have been trying for a number of years to drastically simplify and modernise Windows and force users to use the OS a particular way.
For example you used to be able to have the taskbar at the top or sides, now on W11 you cannot.
