I know, I know: "Google it" should get me there but, I am getting a bit stuck here...

I've long since used Gmail as my main email inbox tool - but use a Hotmail address as the address I put on just about everything.

I've been importing, using POP3, from my hotmail inbox to my Gmail for years to bring things into one place.

I understand (think!) 'hotmail' has/is coming to it's end, and so I'm really using Outlook.com instead.

But the Pop3 connection between my Gmail and my hotmail/outlook has broken (about 3 weeks ago) - and I can't figure out how to get it back working. All the details I am inputting to Gmail / settings I am using match up with the info here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/pop-ima... but Gmail is still telling me I have an 'Authentication Error'....

Any pointers from the more skilled/knowledgeable much appreciated... Even if it's just to point me in the direction of a more 21st century solution...

you need to go into the MS account and create an application-specific password to use when pulling POP3 from Gmail.

There have been some 'recent' (last few months, or perhaps some time last year) changes to the look/feel I get when using the 'hotmail' account - but I see from the news below (published last year some time, presumably there was a reason for that) that it's been a much longer timescale change from 'hotmail' to 'Outlook'....

I do seem to recall tat, but fundamentally the email addresses still work. I also use Gmail and Gmailify my Hotmail emails.

Same here, just the POP3 retrieval of my Hotmail
Inbox contents to appear into my gmail inbox has stopped working and I can’t work out why…

Finally got round to do this and it indeed sorted things out. I had to set 2fa first but that was probably overdue anyway!

Cheers for the advice!
