Just back from holiday where, for no apparent reason, my I-Pad got stuck on an apple symbol on/off every 5 seconds. Found out when I came to use it and the battery was completely out.......I charged it and got the apple logo merry go around.....tried to re-start (Home / Sleep) and no joy.

Now I'm home I've tried to restore via I Tunes (Computer says no when it tries it) so I resigned myself to a full factory reset....but now I'm getting error 4013. Tried it twice with 2 different cables and the same result. Same apple logo on/off if I try and restart.

Anyone know if it's bricked or other options ? Model is A-1893 so isn't new by any means (probably about 5 years I think). My nearest Apple store is > 25 miles away so not easy to "pop in" to get it checked.

Looks like I might need to budget for a new one unless the tech savvy out there know different !

Does it give you an option to update instead of restore? That might be worth a shot.

DFU mode would be a good option.

I assume the iPad is now charged and holding charge?

Also look at hard reset/power down; what is it doing when charged and not connected with a cable?

Well originally when charged and attempt to power on, it would go into a loop of apple logo (as if turning on), then blank screen, then apple logo.

I tried to restore, i Tunes tried and then said it didn't work and the only option is a restore to factory settings. I tried that twice which was when I got the 4013 error.

I've just left it to charge over night following the 4013 error and now it's stuck in Restore mode. When plugged into PC with I Tunes running, it says "Your IPad cannot be updated; you must restore it to factory settings". If I try that I get 4013 again.

If I unplug the I-pad from PC and turn off / on again, I only get restore option after apple logo....so now seems stuck in Restore.

Going around in ever decreasing circles. I'll read through the link provided above later tonight to see if it brings any clarity. I fear a major hardware error is the root cause.

My daughter has this with her iPad last year, took it into an Apple shop and then a small local indie repairer and they both said the same thing - not repairable, had to buy a new one.

Also had the same error a few months ago with the same ipad model. After a few failed restore attempts I binned it and bought a 2022 model.
The new model is much better but the old one was 6 years old so had started to show its age and was obviously slower.
I think £300 for an iPad and getting 6 years out of it isn’t a bad investment.

Thanks for replies....I think it's one for the bin. Just checked back and it was purchased in October 2018 so not a bad stint for technology used every day.

I have some John Lewis vouchers burning a hole in my pocket so will look at the new iPad air as an upgrade and replacement.
