Don't know if anyone can help as Google hasn't helped me.

I switch my home laptop on this morning and old HP. It has decided to updated to windows ???

But this has meant that I've lost all my files, nothing in downloads, photos, docs etc etc

When I've gone to back up to restore to yeterday, these nothing there to restore to/from????????????

Have I lost everything or is there something I can do to get back to yesterday.............

Please help

Are you sure you logged on as 'you', not a guest or anything. It's highly unlikely that a windows update lost your files.

Possibly a corrupt user profile?
Your files should be there under c:/users/<your user name>

As others have said, the files are more than likely still there.

Can you search for files by name that you know are from the root directory?

Double check you are logged in as the same user as before.

look in c:\windows.old
everything is there

the upgrade would not happen unless someone allowed it to.

Former IT chap here.

Remember to backup important files regularly whether or not you're making significant changes to your computer.

I think he’s busy at the moment, something about getting some new windows installed.

So all sorted.

Figure out where there was a back up file and went back to what it was like last week.
