Costco iMac M1 deal
Discussion
In case useful to anyone here who may be looking for a new desktop Mac, Costco have a current deal on M1 iMacs (silver or blue) with upgraded 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD for £999, pretty sure these were more than £2k originally. Ordered one myself to replace a 10yr old iMac:

For clarity the current M3 iMac with 16GB RAM / 1TB SSD is £2199 on the Apple Store, the one in the Costco link above is the older M1 version (2021-2023) with 16GB / 1TB for £1000. I do need the 1TB storage, but the price premium for that on current models is exorbitant.

My M1 Mac Mini was superb (that good it acts as my music server etc in the living room); my M1 MBA is faultless in the 2 years I've owned it and my M2 Mac Mini Pro is exactly the same
I didn't go for an iMac when I bought my M2 Mac Mini as I've already got an excellent 24" BenQ monitor, 1080 webcam etc and don't need the iMac screen
But if I needed a new Mac and my budget was c£1k - that'd get the money straight away!
Spending twice that isn't going to get you twice the computer really; the latest Macs are superb, but the M1 is still a belter!

Is it worth buying a desktop Mac over a laptop?
Depends whether you want it to be portable or not.Laptop = portable
Desktop = not (as easily) portable
Although I've taken a 2008 MacPro around the world in my previous jobs, then a 27" 5k i7 iMac, then a 21.5" i7 iMac - in iLugger cases/backpacks. Just don't get the out and try to use them on a plane/train

As said; if you need portability then not really. But if you want a decent, powerful computer that's fairly future proof and works superbly; then it can't be beatenWant portability but want an iMac; get a standard iPad to work alongside

That's £600 cheaper than a current M3 with 16GB, so I would say an excellent deal.
I'm frustrated because I wan a 27' and If I go Mac Mini and screen I don't get integrated web cam and Dolby atoms. :/
Im in the same boat and odds are the new bigger iMacs will come next year. Might be £££ (4k+) I'm frustrated because I wan a 27' and If I go Mac Mini and screen I don't get integrated web cam and Dolby atoms. :/
