Looking for my sons 9th birthday so he can chat to his friends play abit of roadblocks and get a penicl maybe later to use the drawing apps,
it will be used for family also which is mostly browsing the net etc.

We already have 2 in the family, mine is around 12 years old and works but we theres no memory for apps etc, my wifes is around 7 years old and is just very slow now.

We dont want to spend £1000s ideally around £500-£600 it looks like its between a 10th gen with 256gb and A14 chip or a 5th gen with 64gb and the M1 chip are the options in budget.

So is it worth the new chip but less memory or old chip but more memory, noting the gen 5 uses the 2nd gen pencil.

Ive been looking here to compare - https://www.t-mobile.com/devices/compare-ipad-mode...

New iPad release is supposed to be next month. Might be worth hanging on a bit and see what happens to prices?

Agree; I'd hang on to see what the updates are

But I'd also be looking at an M1 iPad at a minimum personally

Have you checked Apples Refurbished store to see what's available from them directly?
