Apple Car Play audio playing through phone?
Discussion
Any suggestions why Apple Car Play audio sometimes comes out of my phone and not the car please?
Sometimes when getting in my car, Apple Car Play will auto connect and display on my cars screen as it should but the audio comes out of my phone. I can touch the cars screen to control the music volume, skip tracks etc and it all looks to be working correctly apart from the audio. I have to turn off the ignition and remove keys, them turn back on to try and reset it.

Sounds like a compatibility issue.Sometimes when getting in my car, Apple Car Play will auto connect and display on my cars screen as it should but the audio comes out of my phone. What iPhone Is it?
Is it running latest firmware?
Try a different iPhone
Try same iPhone different car (if access to one)
Reset delete your iPhone in CarPlay settings on car and iPhone
Unfortunately I don’t think there’s much you can changes in the settings to alter the way it connects. More chance of resetting everything and starting again.

It's an iPhone 12. This problem only occurs occasionally. What iPhone Is it?

Unfortunately, it can be one of the quirks on CarPlay. It doesn’t always play.I’m going to take a stab at it’s a VAG car.
I’ve got the latest A6 with CarPlay and occasionally it doesn’t mirror the display, although all the functions are their if I use voice activation.
Very rarely, about one in every hundred starts, turning the steering wheel right activates Siri.
I just hold down the infotainment power button for 5 seconds and reset the infotainment and this resolves both issues. I’ve just learnt to live with it.
