Hi All,

I've just bought a new PC with Windows 11 and it's great.

The only slight disappointment, is that it won't run my ancient version of Photoshop 6. I should mention, Photoshop 6 met my very basic needs perfectly well. From everything that I've read, Photoshop Elements would easily meet my requirements.

I'm reluctant to buy Photoshop Elements, because it seems that it can only be purchased as a download - which is done by logging in using my email address and password. The adverts mention, that Adobe will then have 'access' to my contacts - I'd really like to avoid this, purely because I don't agree with such a process.

I took a look on Ebay and saw that there was an advert for a Photoshop Elements DVD from 1922 (?). What I can't understand, is why I can't see similar DVDs on Amazon etc.

Do you think that this is this legit ?

This ^^^ seems to be just what I'd like to buy - a DVD . . . . . . . so why aren't such DVDs more commonly available - how's the seller got it ?

You could try GIMP first, that may be suitable.

That seems really unlikely and definitely like a scam. I can't see why Adobe would want or need your email password. It might want your email address to set up an account, but the password will be unique to the account, not your email, use a different password.
Having just read the instructions, that's exactly what it means. Register using your email address, but choose a completely unique (not relatesd to your actual email address) password.

You should be able to buy Elements on Amazon without any of the above.

Is it actually Photoshop 6 or Photoshop CS6?

Most companies have stopped producing/distributing CD/DVD versions because it's much cheaper not to...and everyone has broadband anyway...and the download only model allows them to supply the latest version at no further cost to them - rather than you installing the version distributed and then having to download a new version to fix bugs that were found later.

Although, if it's Photoshop 6, then does your ancient version just need to be run in Windows compatibility mode (Windows 7/ME)?

If you were using Photoshop v6 before, you might be able to find legit versions of Photoshop CS2 online (essentially PS v8).

Reason being there was a point in time when adobe shut down its legacy activation servers for the software, and so supplied an official download and serial number on their website.

Before I moved away from PC, I used this version for many years. Although I had purchased a newer version, I liked the simplicity of the older one (it didn’t come with all the creative cloud online nonsense) and I knew my way around it. It had a few minor bugs on Win11 but nothing that stopped it being useful. Worth a search.

I also used it in tandem with paint.net, which is completely free and works very similar. Try that too, you might like it!

It's legit. I have the Photoshop Elements / Premier Elements 2022 on DVD. Picture attached as proof. No custard to prove it though, so you'll have to make do with a screenshot of this thread.

I can also see the 2024 versions of the Photoshop Elements / Premier Elements bundle on DVD on Amazon. No stand-alone Photoshop Elements, though.
