White screen on YouTube

Wonder if someone could help please, I've an issue with YouTube videos not playing on my tablet, through the browser, as opposed to through the YouTube app, also if someone on a forum posts up an embedded video it is the same; white screen but sound.
I can hear the sound but the screen is white, the timer bar along the bottom counts down, if I pause it I get the usual suggestions across the screen all in colour and totally visible, press play again, I get the sound but no picture.
Type in to search, I get the usual list of suggestions, click on anything; white screen with sound but the suggestions to the right still visible.
I've Googled it, cleared the cache as suggested but that seems to be the only suggestion, my tablet is Android running Android 9, it is a circa 5 year old Huwawai so hasn't been properly supported for years, I'm wondering if that could be the issue, however the YouTube app works fine.
Any suggestions, hints and tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
