Hi All
The last few months noticed iphone 12mini difficult to charge. Last night and today been unable to charge both my iphone and ipad with usual plug and lead. It seems somehow the problem is connected . I managed to make a quick facetime call on ipad this am before the batteries completely ran out but noticed when I made and had connected on the ipad facetime call, the iphone rang with and showed a facetime notification. It's done this once before.
Any idea what is going on please?
thanks!

Charging cable? Do not buy cheap, buy a high current cable the cheap ones give a not charging warning and are a TPITA.

I paid £15 for a new cable never had a problem since both I pads and I phones quick to charge.

Thank you
I have been using a couple like this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01F9RH0R4/ref...
and a different " apple certified lightning cable"
the ipad and iphone had been charging fine using these before

More than likely a damaged / crap lead. Try another or buy a good branded one as they always come useful as a spare.

Have you looked at your battery app to see what the charging profile looks like?

Has to be the cable or power supply if you plug them in and they don’t charge.

I use anker cables with no issues others will suggest ugreen. Both on Amazon. Also check the power of the supply I use a 45W charger or a 65W charger.

I dont think you can buy the official apple high powered lightening to USB chargers anymore ? what might be a reliable alternative brand please

My iPad Pro stopped charging a few weeks ago then found out it would charge from a usb a to usb c cable/charger

I think my fast charging is fried on my iPad usb c port as won’t even detect a cable being inserted if it’s usb c to usb c

Have you checked for fluff in the port?

Clean it with a toothpick and compressed air;

No to both - the iphone and ipad pro
Both use the usb cable chargers not the new c type

Have you got a PC or laptop with a USB that you can try charging the phone from?

My laptop charges my iPhone. It will quickly tell you if its the plug that’s faulty

iPad Pro never came with a 12W charger pretty sure 20W or 30W.

To future proof I’d get an anker USB-C charger around 65W and associated cables to lightning or usb-C

Have you actually stuck a wooden cocktail stick in there and had a really persistent scratch around, right to the bottom and along both sides? You’d be amazed how much fluff you can hook out of a port that looks completely clean. Lightning ports seem particularly prone to it.

Every time I’ve had issues with my iPhone failing to charge overnight, the problem has always been solved in 5 minutes with a cocktail stick. Wooden or plastic - I wouldn’t put anything metal in there. But you do need to be quite persistent - you might get nothing from the first few attempts, and then suddenly a significant ball of fluff will come out. I guess the stuff gets compressed as you plug the cable in, and requires a bit of teasing to get it out.

Compressed air probably a better choice . . .

I disagree. Like I say, the fluff seems to get compressed into the port, and needs some mechanical persuasion to get it out.

Also, the problem with compressed air is it comes out very cold (Charles’ Law, I believe), which can cause condensation to form right where you don’t want it.

Is it fully up to date? My wife's 12 mini didn't charge overnight last night, she found it was because an update hadn't been installed. Clearing some space (rolleyes) and updating it fixed it.
This was wireless charging, not sure if that makes a difference.

I've managed to get them both charging but unsure exactly how, plugged both into usb port on computer this did not appear to do anything but then the ipad charged with another apple (normal charge) speed charger by plugging into another socket.

Cleared a small amount of fluff as advised with tooth pick from iphone , did not charge on computer , wiggled other iphone charger and managed to get connection again, but by this time ipad was charging

Now both charging fine using same cables , same chargers and sockets

I do think it may be a software issue, as both affected at same time which has not happened before.

Phone is not updated as says need to clear storage, offloaded most of apps a few weeks ago has not made alot of difference and the photos I have deleted do not appear to have changed the recognised storage space , however Apple said storage does not attend to affect the battery

My last iphone did same thing just would not charge and I was told faulty port as had not used approved Apple cable

How long do you expect your iphones and ipads to last ??

thanks for all your help

There’s a reason nearly everyone has said cables. It is not a software issue.
