Guys I’m a bit out of my knowledge base here.
My son is 14 but has some learning difficulties meaning he presents as younger.
We’re trying to find him some independence and want to get him a phone. He has a tablet, PS4 and a laptop he watches you tube on.
I’ll ideally get a PAYG or a small limited contract, but who with, what phone and what contract?
I’m on Vodafone and have Sky who constantly offer phones / deals but I’m interested in what’s worked for others.

An additional SIM only contract from your current provider will probably be the best option

Xgb of data for £Y, then a £5 spend cap above that or something similar.

Then buy a 2nd hand/refurb phone to put it in

I went for a refurb iPhone 12 for my daughter (9) and a 20gb/mth contract from MobilePhonesDirect on O2. Worked out cheaper than a handset and SIMO deal.

Only went O2 as I’m on there as well so it’s all sat on one account for me for ease.

Apple household too so an iPhone made sense. YMMV

I think I would pay up front for a refurb handset and go 30 day sim only contract for flexibility. That's what we did for both our kids when they were 11/12 and going to secondary school.

Cheers - we are both Apple so I’ll get him a refurb iPhone and a Vodafone sim on my account.

Let’s see how long it lasts
