This should be a simple question but Googling hasn't really helped too much. I have a programme (don't laugh, it's Quicken 2004) on a CD & want to "burn" it onto a USB stick as my new PC doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. What's the procedure for doing this? Searching just brings up loads of sites assuming I want want to copy an OS ISO & go on about making the USB stick bootable - I don't want to boot from it.

Second question: how can I "extract" the files from the ISO format into a normal folder structure? Is this what happens when burning an ISO to a USB stick?

Your new PC should mount an iso without doing anything.

Rip the DVD to iso, copy iso to USB, double click it on new PC and it should mount it.

The second link I found when googling 'Quicken 2004 download' took me to an abandonware site, can you not simply go find it???

It may be less painful to just copy the CD/DVD's folder structure to the USB stick, rather than generating an ISO, copying the ISO to the USB stick and mounting the ISO on the target machine to access the folder structure.

Alternatively, if you have a machine with an optical drive, can you not share that drive and mount it on the machine you want to install on?

This is the most painless way. I have one and they're actually surprisingly useful, even these days. Last thing was moving old photo disks to HDD.

Is it not just Quicken 2004 on a CD? (ie the installation files) ?

That's not an iso. It's just a load of files on a CD.

So all you need is an optical drive to copy those files to a folder on your hard drive. Then run setup.exe (which it must likely will be called) and it will install.

It might not run however, given how old it is.

I have a CD/DVD drive in this PC but having the installer on a stick is going to be more future proof - not just for Quicken but a couple of other discs I have as well.

Thanks for the reponses. I've now shoehorned Quicken onto my Windows 11 PC but need to hunt down a couple of missing .dlls

Use imgburn to copy it to your local machine, then RUFUS to push the image onto the USB.
