EE to ID Mobile?
Discussion
Yesterday, I decided it was time to move to a cheaper mobile provider - I was with EE - 40GB / £18.72 a month. Most months I use under 20GB but apparently used 25GB September last year for some reason.
I looked at Smarty and ID but preferred ID simply because they had more data allowance choices. ID would give me 30GB for £7, 40GB for £8 or even higher for the same price due to a current offer.
I called EE this morning, who immediately offered me 30GB (which is enough really) for £10, I still keep free EU roaming, no price rise until End of March 2025, 12 month contract.
It seemed like a decent deal, so I took it - avoids the hassle of moving, plus I prefer EE to 3. But.....
Although I stay comfortably inside 20GB most months, and hence well under 30GB - I suddenly feel very aware of my data allowance. I didn't at 40GB, but 30 just seems a bit too low. I have 14 days to cancel the new contract and I'm tempted to do that.
Before I do - anybody else gone EE to ID (or 3) and how was it?
I do apparently get strong 3 signal at home and work, and most of my data is music streaming - so even if it wasn't quite as fast it's no big deal (currently don't use 5G).
It is essential I have EU roaming, which ID provide anyway.
The EE deal they gave me is a decent price and has enough data - but I think I'm happier with 'far more than I need' than 'enough'.

'Apparently' they throttle 3rd party carriers such as ID.
The EE guy told me this too. However, there are plenty of customers for giff gaff / ID / Smarty etc so I'm dubious about how much of an issue it really is, and not sure I'd notice for my useEdited by davek_964 on Saturday 9th March 14:16
Just get a rolling 1 month contract on ID and see how you get on with the network. As you note, you have a cooling off period anyway so no problems cancelling if the signal is crap. 3 is very hit and miss and much more 'fussy' than EE ime. Apparently it's something to do with the band they use which doesn't penetrate through walls or some such, but you can go from having a billion Mbps in one location to have absolutely no signal whatsoever if you move 6ft to your left. 3 coverage for data is also pretty much nonexistent out in the sticks and they seem to have far more "service is down for maintenance" issues than other carriers.

My mistake. You’re right, sorry for the confusion
I wish they were on EE as ID have some cracking deals. I've been bitten by 3 network before though and although EE have been far from perfect, they are the 'least hassle' path for me and so begrudgingly pay their comparatively high prices to keep my sanity intact. I'm not a patient person and that's not a good combination when you rely on a working connection for both work and hobby interests when the network is having yet another wobble!r3g said:

Yeah, that's kind of where I am. EE has been pretty good in the time I've had it, and there are historical reasons that I'm not all that keen on 3. The posts above have not really removed my concerns.I think maybe I'll stick with them for the year, but as suggested maybe get a one month ID Mobile SIM in about 11 months time and see how it is. I'll probably feel like updating my phone around that time so could even run them side by side for a few weeks.

Why do you need to have it for 11 months? That's why I said get a 1 month rolling contract SIM. The wallahs in the cancellations department won't tell you about these willingly because they're on commission to get you to sign up to a fresh 12 or 24 month contract. As the name says, the 1 month contract is exactly that : you can cancel it any time with 1 month notice period without any penalty. They are obviously slightly more expensive than an equivalent 12 or 24 month contract, per month, but I don't think an extra £2 is going to bankrupt you to have the freedom of no 12 or 24 month tie-in .I think maybe I'll stick with them for the year, but as suggested maybe get a one month ID Mobile SIM in about 11 months time and see how it is. I switched from ee to 3 a couple of years back. Went back to ee as soon as the cost to buyout my contract wasn't ridiculous.

Can I ask the audience what the general consensus is for the price of this SIM offer :

The £11.20 per month is rather ambiguous imo and has probably caught out a number of people when month 7 has arrived , but is that 30% off per month for the entire 24 month period or just the first 6 months? I'm thinking just the first 6 months with the way the figures are listed, so £11.20 for 6 months then £32 for 18 months + RPI increase(s). If that's the case then why list it like that and not 65% off for the first 6 months? I'm aware the deal is capped at 100 Mbps but I have that currently and it's plenty fast enough for my needs.
Lyca £18x12 = £216 https://paymonthly.lycamobile.co.uk/select-require...
BT £11.20x6 = £67.20 + £32x18 = £576 = £643.20 / 12 = £321.60
What am I missing here? Why is Lyca over £100 cheaper? I've checked their FUP on the unlimited data plans and it's 450GB which is ample for me after watching hours of 1080p Twitch VODs.
Is anyone here with Lyca?
