I'm reasonably tech savvy, but I'm struggling here.

Wife has a new phone, she wants to be able to upload photos from her phone to my Google Photos account. I cannot use Partner Sharing as you only can use that with 1 person and the mother in law is on that, for simplicity. If I add my account to my wifes phone, all my contacts sync which messes with her contacts.

I've tried adding my account then quickly turning on Airplane mode to prevent contact syncing, to give me time to go into the phone to turn off contact syncing, but I'm seemingly not quick enough.

Would be easy if Google allowed more than 1 partner sharing, or just be able to add my details onto Google Photos without it auto adding email, contacts etc. I feel I'm stuck with trying to quickly put airplane mode on to prevent it syncing contacts, any other ideas?

What's the purpose of syncing photos to your account? To save on storage costs? or so you can both see the photos

To save photos online for other family members to view, changing services isn't an option as I pay for 2TB Google storage.

If I have a goole album saved in goole photos, I can send multiple email invites to look at and/or be able to add and amend.

Does that work for you?

Your wife invites you to album, then you can view on your device, and save if needed?

Can't you use family sharing via Google One?

Just set up a family link account then you all get access to the storage.

I also do this. Have a shared album in Google photos. Members get a notification when new photos are added. Very simple to use, just go into the shared album, click add photos and you just tick the ones from your main Google photos album you want to share. It also shows you the ones, in your main album, that you're already sharing.

Have also used this as a one off thing for a friend's wedding once where they asked guests to drop any photos in they wanted to share.

Are you trying to get her phone to upload photos automatically to "your" Google account?

Not sure if you can do that (ie putting everything into a shared Photos album) and by adding your account to her phone you're syncing everything between the 2 phones.

Best way is to use Google One (which you probably already have?) and then share the storage between users, but this will still put her photos into a separate area, I think, and she will have to chose which photos to share with you, either by moving them into a shared album or sending you a link.

The last thing I would describe that situation as is "simple". Why the hell would you want your mother in law with access to Partner Sharing!?

So it would seem creating a shared album for the MiL and other family members, is the solution but that brings with it one significant issue... how do you add thousands and thousands of photos to the shared album?

Probably a few different methods to 'select all', but once that's done, click 'add photos'.

The problem isn't lack of storage for the wife, its having all photos in 1 location, which is then shared with other family members.

Surely you can see the potential problems if the whole families photos upload to a shared album by default though, which is what you seem to want? I would argue there is a very good reason for not having that!

So you create a folder called what ever you like, you then invite other members via their email to either view or be contributors for that folder.

They can they backup their photos via Google Photos, and then select them and add them to the shared folder.
