Converting/Importing Hi8 analogue tapes to a MacBookPro
Discussion
I have about 20 Hi8 (PAL?) video tapes that I'd like to import and play on a 2023 MacBookPro. Googling is leading me in circles!
The MB is a 2023 M2 Pro with Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) sockets and an HMDI socket. It has iMovie installed.
The Hi8 device to play the tapes has two RCA/phono sockets marked Audio and Video. I assume these are analogue so I guess either a converter plugged in between the camera and MBP digital bus connections.
Is that what I need?
Any recommendations? Searching on Amazon takes me to games box converters. Would they work?
If I can get the right cabling is it just a matter of playing the tape and simultaneously importing via iMovie?
Thanks
Ian

Record in quicktime then you can create in iMovie if that is needed rather than just using the unedited QuickTime videos.
