I have had a number of Philips Hue lights for the past 7 years. For most of that time they have worked fine with my "Google Assistant" devices.

Last week the "Google Assistant" started having problems controlling the devices. today it has stopped working altogether and I cannot find any way of fixing it.

So far I have tried:

  1. Power cycling the Google Assitant devices
  2. Power cycling the hue bridge
  3. Unlinking and re-linking the Hue & Google Accounts
  4. Logging in to my Google account and removing the Hue connection and re-creating it
  5. Logging in to my Google account & Hue Account and removing the Hue connection(s) apps etc on all accounts and re-creating them
  6. Generally losing my temper
  7. Having a temper tantrum
When I try and re-add the device a banner comes up saying:

"Philips Hue is linked"

Followed by

"Something went wrong try again"

Is this just another case of a cloud anti-feature being downgraded?
Is the Google Assistant just sh*t?

Searching on Google yields no results as all of the answers are with initial setup not failure after N years.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

For the record the Hue app, Apple Home Kit App & Siri have no problems controlling the lights.

Do you have the Hue hub? I had lights connected directly via Bluetooth but once I'd got a few they were constantly playing up. The hub sorted the lights out but recently Alexa has been dropping the connection to the hub itself.

Honestly I'm fast thinking smart lights are more trouble than they're worth.

If bu "Hue Hub" you mean the white "Hue Bridge" then yes I have one of those and it works with other apps.

Sorry yes the bridge, I forgot that was what it was called.

I added to my post, I use Alexa but recently that has been losing connection to the hub too in addition to a few other things. I have a suspicion they're all winding down investment into the smart home products.

I read elsewhere that Google is slowly removing features from the home assistants. Last week they removed the StopWatch (not taht I every used it)...

The problem with "Cloud-Devices" is that you dont really own anything and are basically at the mercy of the company running it... Of they want more money then here comes a subscription rise, if they want you to buy a new device the they can simply brick the one you have.
