Anybody else suddenly finding that they get pretty much zero spam?

I have a few email accounts - mostly hotmail / outlook - and for years have got at least a few spam emails in the junk folder each day, and often more (plus some that make it as far as the inbox).

But for about the last week - nothing. It's been completely spam free.

I'm still receiving normal email, so nothing has broken - have they finally implemented decent spam filters on hotmail / outlook?

I only have Gmail, but even with a 10+ year old email address I get very little spam, almost nothing outside of the spam folder, in fact most of the spam folder is false positives (but still just advertising for aliexpress etc)

It's a domain under Google workspaces and there is an account that gets all the email that doesn't match a user and even this has virtually no spam.

That's pretty impressive.

Funnily enough, in the last week I’ve only received about two junk mails in my Hotmail. Prior to that, around ten a day.

Same here.
No spam at all, for over 10 years, with Gmail.

My Gmail doesn't get a lot of spam in the inbox but there is a tonne of it in the spam box everyday.

I get the same email from the same spam address at least 6 times a day.

My Proton mail has been solid for about 3 years now, but the last month I've started getting the odd bit of spam in it.

There has been a huge crackdown by some companies, Google being one, with regards to spam. A lot of emails getting rejected failing their anti spam settings. Our email dns had to be changed a while back to stop lot's of them being rejected. Maybe the companies spamming haven't updated their's.

Exactly that. There is a big scramble at the minute to make sure that genuine senders are set up to be kosher so hopefully you are now seeing the benefit of that work:

Ahhh - the excellent Gmail spam filtering - some of my outgoing company emails get marked as spam for no reason at all (which I've been battling for years), and then an incoming email from Glastonbury Festival for the ticket balance payment was blocked as spam by Gmail and I lost my tickets....

Google has started insisting on DMARC for bulk mail senders which will filter out a load of crap.

Well, it turns out that I am getting just as much spam after all.

By chance, i was checking email just as a new mail arrived - I saw it appear in the inbox and then immediately disappear.

Looked in my spam folder and there is weeks of spam there. What has changed is that for some reason, when I view my email folders it's not showing unread messages in spam. Hence I thought nothing was there.

Ironically the mail that arrived this morning wasn't spam anyway

The "new" spam is;

"Tell us how we did!"
"How was your experience with us?"
"Please rate your delivery"

One of them even had the temerity to say something along the lines of "Whilst we are aware you selected not to receive marketing or product news from us, this isn't. We want to hear your views on your recent purchase". And because it's not deemed as spam by them, there is no unsubscribe option :-)

Which email client (program) are you using - or are you reading them through a browser?

Seems it was just a glitch with the phone. Rebooted it and now it's back to showing an unread count in the junk folder

On my iPhone I think, apart from Inbox, the Outlook App only downloads new emails when you tap on the relevant folders.

No, mine has never behaved that way. I have always checked the folder view to see if I have junk email I need to check, and it's always showed a count if there is anything in there.

Reboot has meant it behaves that way again - a shame really. I was quite pleased thinking it was all being blocked

Still get tonnes per day but luckily it just goes straight into my spam folder. God knows where these tcensoreds get your email addresses from!
