Security camera to catch those who drive into our wall
Discussion
I know the security camera thread has been done to death, but I couldn’t find a definitive answer and tech has also moved on.
So, our drive is off a narrow lane and we were also on a corner. We’ve had the odd incident or two in finding our drive wall in bits due to it being hit by someone who failed to have a pen an paper to apologise and pass on insurance details…
So, I need a camera or two that can record the end of the drive to catch anyone who drives into it again and a contribution to repairs. Dry stone walling isn’t cheap.
It needs to be WiFi due to the location which, based on this requirement, there seems to be a whole load on the market. But, is there anything that can record enough footage to cover if we are away for a couple of days?
I’m not that keen on paying a hefty subscription fee but not adverse if cloud storage is the way to go.
What have I missed? Suggestions appreciated.

Will a camera located at the house see to the entrance with enough resolution to see number plates?
If you locate a camera at the entrance then do you have Wi-Fi range and a power supply?
One possibly could be to use a Ring camera as their battery doorbell works very well for us. The Ring products have very good software features for detection zones and motion detection and they upload to the cloud for viewing. Also a doorbell camera might not attract attention as it doesn't look so much like a surveillance camera.

I have a netatmo camera that has number plate recognition, it has an sd card for backup and records to the cloud, it needs power though. It is wifi.
I also have a ring doorbell running on solar and battery, that is good.
It was a genuine question, if you have the number plate how do you find out who was driving the car and where to contact them .I also have a ring doorbell running on solar and battery, that is good.

I like tapo. It’s reliable and the app is good.
Yes. We have several Tapo C310 around the house.
Good WiFi range, takes SD cards and it's now easy to download from SD card to the phone (it didn't used to be). 30GB storage lasts a month normally.
Cloud storage is available from £2.95 per month. We use that for our most vulnerable cameras, SD storage for the rest.

I would also inform the police that the person crashed and drove off and hand them the cctv evidence.
There have also been numerous instances of videos going on social media and the pressure makes the perp own up. A local shop had a shoplifter, the shop posted the videos which were brilliant quality. The father of the perp was notified that it was all over Facebook and he marched his son in to the shop to return the goods and apologise.

If you can show good reason the DVLA will give you details of the registered keeper. I’ve done it when I had cctv and a witness after a car hit my house. I had to give them the police crime report number and an estimate for the repairs.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
