Hi Guys,
I'm after a device, battery that lasts at least a full 24h, that I can give to my Son when Skiing and I can GPS Track it !

There are GPS trackers on amazon, and kids watches etc, but they all seem a bit gimicy and most require you to sign up to a subscription.

What would you do?

Ideally tracked from my Iphone

Can I buy a cheap mobile phone and chuck that in his pocket?

Old used Apple watch?

This will be in the French alps, so it need to work in europe.

I have a Huawei GT3 watch that said it has GPS on it, but never been able to get that to work annoyingly, would have been ideal to just give him that on those days.

Constant tracking, or quick look where he is when you look? If the latter, just get him to share his location on Google Maps, then you can see it, but crucially, not where he's been, so a lot less likely to get pushback from the yoot, who has visions of his Dad spoiling the Apres. And its free

He is 5/6, so doesnt have a phone, or care if I track him, yet!

This is only for Skiing/festivals, not one of 'those' parents

In that case, a dinosaur holder for an Airtag might be good enough biggrin

I have an airtag already, and when I lost my son at a festival last year (I know, bad dad) It very helpfully said "last seen 27 mins ago here", which is exactly where I was with him 15 mins ago, its not a GPS tracker, it relies on push updates and other peoples phones doesn't it?

There are some decent tracker watches, I've had a really good experience with this one (XGO3):

You can track GPS location from the app on your phone when needed, and also call/message. Use with a giffgaff PAYG SIM and only top up when required. No need for a monthly subscription.

Cheap GPS trackers don't broadcast their position, they use GPS to know their position and "broadcast" via the mobile network - so that's not accurate / reliable in the mountains.

A Garmin inreach or similar will track, but are quite ££ and require a subscription to use.

Annoyingly got Google Family, it wont let you see where kids have been in maps.

Missus 11 year old lost his phone, you can only track it live, no historical, I can see it was last online with 4% battery on a date and then nothing.
