McAfee being attacked

Was bimbling about on FB whwn the laptop went crazy..telling me my Mcaffee is under attack, and at risk , computer is infected
someone is downloading stuff from it , and pop ups telling me suspicious website

got rid of these pop ups by deleting google notifications


Now the weird thing is..I Dont have Mcafee installed.. anyone know about this, and is there anyway i can get the laptop back tonormal

Did you click on a link (possibly in a facebook comment?). Something similar happened to my mum and it was just notification hijacking. Very persistent and annoying, but easily solved by deleting the permission in the browser which it sounds like you have done

My daughter had this on her laptop at the weekend. It seemed to be two websites that were masquerading as McAfee and trying to direct us to click on these pop ups. Managed to fix it by deleting some new Chrome extension which had installed itself (called Web Advisor McAfee), but not a genuine extension. Then did a Malwarebytes scan.
